Swansea Airport could soon be operating regional flights according to Martin Morgan the Swansea City Director.

Mr Morgan is said to be pulling together a consortium of local businesses and organisations to support his plan to expand the airports routes.

Swansea airport is only used by light aircraft and helicopters and would require an extension to it’s runway to enable 50 city aircraft to land. The terminal building will also require an upgrade as it’s currently only suitable for 25 passengers.

Airport operator and owner of Air Wales, Roy Thomas said he was aware of the plans but hadn’t been involved in any talks.

Mr Thomas revealed that the current business plan was to supplement private flying operations and helicopter training at the airport with a visitor attraction such as a National Museum of Flight.
